Bidfoods Racking Case Study

PFC Load Spreaders for Dawson Group at Bidfoods

Bidfoods, part or the multinational food group, Bidvest, appointed the Dawson Group (www.dawsongroup.co.uk) to design and build a new cold store extension at its facility in Bradford.

Technical constraints on the building meant that the point loadings required for a conventional pallet racking system could not be achieved.

Working closely with Dawson Group and their structural engineers, we designed PFC (Parallel Faced Channel) section load spreaders, which, by spreading the point loads from the racking uprights evenly over a greater area, allowed an additional level of pallet storage to be installed without compromising the design of the floor slab.

Additionally, 100 mm x 75 mm RSA (Rolled Steel Angle) sections were installed to protect the freezer wall from impact damage at floor level and 89 mm CHS barriers to prevent fork truck impact damage to the racking in the cross aisles.

Installation was completed in time to start the process of bringing the cold store down to its operating temperature and meet the client’s handover deadline.
